Description

The Ramanathaswamy Temple is the most notable historic landmark of Rameshwaram. This temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to the Lord Shiva. The temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines, where Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Jyotirlinga meaning "pillar of light". It is also one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalam temples and is glorified in hymns by the three of the most revered Nayanar saints (7th century Saivite saints), Appar, Sundarar and Tirugnana Sambandar. The temple in its current structure was built during the 12th century by Pandya Dynasty. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India.

रामनाथस्वामी मंदिर रामेश्वरम का सबसे उल्लेखनीय ऐतिहासिक स्थल है। मंदिर 12 ज्योतिर्लिंग मंदिरों में से एक है, जहाँ भगवान शिव की पूजा ज्योतिर्लिंग के रूप में की जाती है । यह 275 पाडल पेट्रा स्टालम मंदिरों में से एक है । ये वर्तमान संरचना में 12 वीं शताब्दी के दौरान पंड्या राजवंश द्वारा बनाया गया था। इस मंदिर का गलियारा भारत में स्थित सभी हिंदू मंदिरों के गलियरों से लंबा है।

Temple Story

Legend has it that Rama worshipped Lord Shiva in the form of a Shiva Lingam made of earth by Sita, while returning to Ayodhya. Legend has it that Lord Hanuman was entrusted with the task of bringing an image of Viswanath from Banaras. Anticipating delay in Hanuman's return from Banaras, Lord Rama is said to have offered worship at a pre-chosen auspicious moment to a Shivalingam fashioned out of earth by Sita. This lingam is referred to as Ramalingam and the town is known as Rameswaram.

किंवदंती है कि यहाँ पर भगवान राम ने अयोध्या लौटते समय माता सीता द्वारा पृथ्वी से निर्मित शिव लिंग के रूप में भगवान शिव की पूजा की थी। किंवदंती है कि भगवान हनुमान को बनारस से विश्वनाथ की मूर्ति लाने का काम सौंपा गया था। कहा जाता है कि भगवान हनुमान की बनारस से वापसी में देरी होने के कारण, भगवान राम ने सीता द्वारा पृथ्वी से निकले शिवलिंगम की पूजा की। इस लिंगम को रामलिंगम के नाम से जाना जाता है और इस शहर को रामेश्वरम के नाम से जाना जाता है।
