Description

Regarded as one of the most pious worship sites of India, Kalighat Kali temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, located in Kolkata, West Bengal. Kalighat was a Ghat sacred to Goddess Kali on the old course (Adi Ganga) of the Hooghly river in the city of Kolkata. The name Calcutta is said to have been derived from the word Kalighat. Over a period of time, the river has moved away from the temple. Now the temple is located on the banks of a small canal called Adi Ganga which connects to the Hooghly. The temple sees the footfall of thousands of pilgrims everyday. However the crowd increases a hundred folds on Tuesdays and Saturdays, especially in the evenings, since these 2 days are considered very auspicious.

भारत के सबसे पवित्र पूजा स्थलों में से एक, कालीघाट काली मंदिर एक हिंदू मंदिर है जो कोलकाता, पश्चिम बंगाल में स्थित मां काली को समर्पित है। कालीघाट कोलकाता शहर में हुगली नदी के किनारे देवी काली को समर्पित एक पवित्र घाट था। कलकत्ता शहर का नाम कालीघाट शब्द से आया है। समय के साथ, नदी मंदिर से दूर चली गई । अब मंदिर आदि गंगा नामक एक छोटी नहर के किनारे स्थित है और यह नहर हुगली नदी से जुड़ती है। मंदिर में प्रतिदिन हजारों श्रद्धालुओं दर्शन के लिए आते हैं। हालाँकि भीड़ मंगलवार और शनिवार को सौ गुना बढ़ जाती है, खासकर शाम को, क्योंकि ये 2 दिन बहुत शुभ माने जाते हैं।

Temple Story

Kalighat is considered as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India, where the different parts of Maa Sati's body are said to have fallen, in the course of 'Shiva Rudra Tandava.' Kalighat represents the place where the toes of the right foot of Maa Sati or Dakshayani fell. Legend says that a devotee discovered a luminant ray of light coming from the girathi river bed, and upon investigating its source came upon a piece of stone carved in the form of a human toe. He also found a Sambhu Lingam of Nakuleshwar Bhairav nearby, and started worshipping Kali in the midst of a thick jungle.

कालीघाट को भारत के 51 शक्तिपीठों में से एक माना जाता है, जहाँ पर भगवान् शिव के रुद्र तांडव के दौरान माँ सती के शरीर के विभिन्न अंग गिरे हुए बताए जाते हैं। कालीघाट उस स्थान का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है जहां पर मां सती के दाहिने पैर गिरे थे। किंवदंती के अनुसार एक भक्त ने गीरथी नदी के किनारे नदी से आती प्रकाश की एक चमकदार किरण देखी, और इसके स्रोत की जांच करने पर उसको मानव पैर के अंगूठे के रूप में नक्काशीदार पत्थर का एक टुकड़ा मिला। उनको पास में नकुलेश्वर भैरव का एक लिंगम भी मिला, और वह घने जंगल के बीच में मां काली की पूजा करने लगे।
