Description

The thousands years old idol of Maa Kali in the Badi Kaliji temple is taken out in annual ceremony on the Ashtami of Navratri season so that the devotees can enjoy the darshan. Devotees from faraway reach here and ask for their wishes. 'Om Jayanti Mangala Kali Bhadrakali Kapalini, Durga Kshama Shiva Dhatri Swaha Namostutte.' It is also said in the scriptures that the devotee who recite this Mahamantra of Maa Kali daily can end all his pains and sorrows. In Navratri, devotees worship Mother Goddess throughout the day. It is the only temple of its kind where sacrifices were offered. Traditionally, the practice of sacrifice on the Navami of every Sharadiya Navratri continued for a long time, with the temple president stating that sacrifice has been completely forbidden here for a long time. Traditionally, on the Mahanavami, after the Havan is worshiped, the sacrifice of five fruits is offered in the tank in front of the mother instead of sacrifice of the living animals.

बड़ी कालीजी मंदिर में हजारों साल पुरानी अष्टधातु की माँ काली की मूर्ति को नवरात्रि के अष्टमी और नवमी के दिन भक्तों के दर्शन के लिए निकाला जाता है। दूर-दराज से भक्त यहां पहुंचकर अपनी मुरादें मांगते हैं। 'ओम जयंती मंगला काली भद्रकाली कपालिनी, दुर्गा क्षमा शिवा धात्री स्‍वाहा नमोस्‍तुते।' शास्‍त्रों में भी कहा गया है कि मां काली के इस महामंत्र को जिस भक्‍त ने साध लिया, उसके सभी कष्‍टों और दुखों का अंत हो जाता है। साथ ही नवरात्रि में मां काली के मंदिर में जाकर उनके सामने इसे जपने से विशेष लाभ होता है। नवरात्रि में पूरे दिन भक्‍त देवी मां की आराधना करते हैं। यह अपनी तरह का अकेला मंदिर है जहां कभी बलि दिया जाया करती थी। यहां हर शारदीय नवरात्र की नवमी पर परंपरागत रूप से जीवित बलि की प्रथा का चलन लंबे समय तक रहा, मंदिर के अध्यक्ष बताते हैं कि अब अरसे से यहां बलि पूरी तरह से वर्जित है। महानवमी पर यहां परंपरागत रूप से हवन पूजन के बाद अब जीवित बली के स्थान पर पंच फलों की बलि मां के सामने बने कुंड में दी जाती है।

Temple Story

The history of Badi Kali Temple is seven hundred years old. It is said that Shankaracharya had installed the idol of the mother Kali. When the Mughals attacked this temple, the pandits threw the idol in a well to protect the idol. For this reason, the temple survived but instead of the idol of the goddess Kali, the Deity statue of Lakshmi-Vishnu was installed here. The temple is also famous for Ashtadhatu idol.

बड़ी काली मंदिर का इतिहास सात सौ साल पुराना है। बताया जाता है कि शंकराचार्य ने माता की मूर्ति की स्थापना की थी, जिस काली मां को हम पूजते हैं असल में वह लक्ष्मी-विष्णु की मूर्ति है। मुगलों ने जब इस मंदिर पर धावा बोला था तो यहां के पंडितों ने यहां स्थापित मूर्ति को बचाने के लिए उसे एक कुएं में फेंक दिया था। इस कारण से आस्था की धरोहर तो बच गई, लेकिन देवी की मूर्ति की जगह लक्ष्मी-विष्णु की विग्रह मूर्ति की स्थापना की गई। मंदिर में एक बेशकीमती अष्टधातु मूर्ति भी है।
