Description

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, more popularly known as ISKCON, is a Hindu religious organization with temples established across India as well as abroad. Also called the Hare Krishna movement, the organization follows the line of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, a monotheistic tradition within the Hindu culture. The beautiful ISKCON temples spread across the county serve as great attractions for devotees and travelers who want some time away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Many of the ISKCON temples in India and abroad showcase features of neo-Vedic and traditional forms of architecture. Preaching is a major element of the ISKCON movement. Followers of this organization spread consciousness about Lord Krishna mainly through the singing of Hare Krishna songs and mantras in public places and distributing books written by the founder-guru. These activities are called Sankirtan within the organization.

Temple Story

ISKCON was founded by Abhaya Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami (born Abhay Charan De) in New York City, USA, in the year 1966. A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami, the founder of ISKCON, was a family man running a small pharmaceutical business before he renounced the worldly pleasures and took the religious path. He is considered as the spiritual guru of the organization. ISKCON was founded with the objective of encouraging the practice of Bhakti Yoga or Krishna Consciousness. The members of ISKCON dedicate their words and deeds towards pleasing Lord Krishna, whom they consider to be the Supreme One. In the last 53 years, the organization has opened hundreds of temples, centers, and rural communities across the world. ISKCON has also established over a hundred vegetarian restaurants, several local meeting groups and a number of community projects.

इस्कॉन की स्थापना वर्ष 1966 में अमेरिका के न्यूयॉर्क शहर में अभय चरणारविंदा भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी (अभय चरण दे) द्वारा की गई थी। वह एक पारिवारिक व्यक्ति थे, जो सांसारिक सुखों का त्याग करने से पहले एक छोटा सा दवा व्यवसाय चलाया करते थे। उन्हें संगठन का आध्यात्मिक गुरु माना जाता है। इस्कॉन की स्थापना भक्ति योग या कृष्ण चेतना के अभ्यास को प्रोत्साहित करने के उद्देश्य से की गई थी। इस्कॉन के सदस्य भगवान कृष्ण को प्रसन्न करने के लिए अपने शब्द और कर्म समर्पित करते हैं, जिन्हें वे सर्वोच्च मानते हैं। पिछले 53 वर्षों में, संगठन ने दुनिया भर में सैकड़ों मंदिर, केंद्र और ग्रामीण समुदाय खोले हैं। इस्कॉन ने सौ से अधिक शाकाहारी रेस्तरां, कई स्थानीय बैठक समूह और कई सामुदायिक परियोजनाएं भी स्थापित की हैं।
