Vinayaka Chaturthi is also known as Varad Vinayaka Chaturthi. In Hindu scriptures, Chaturthi Tithi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This festival is one of the most auspicious festivals celebrated in India. Lord Ganesha is one of the most worshiped deities in Hinduism. Vinayaka devoted to Lord Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated on the fourth day after the new moon.

Lord Ganesha is worshiped as the Lord of new beginnings and the remover of obstacles, i.e. the "Vighnaharta". Lord Ganesha is also known as the god of wisdom and knowledge. It is believed that those who participate in Lord Ganesha Puja and fast on Chaturthi are showered with knowledge and wisdom.

The word Panchamrit is derived from 2 Sanskrit words; 'Panch' meaning 'five', and 'Amrit' meaning 'nectar of Gods' (or the mythological beverage of immortality) . Panchamrit is related to 5 elements in the universe, namely Water, Fire, Earth, Sky and Wind.

It is traditionally used in various Pujas as it is considered to be sacred and holy. Panchamrit is prepared using 5 ingredients- milk, honey, curd, ghee and sugar. One of the main rituals of Ganesh Chaturthi is to bathe the Ganpati idol with Panchamrit along with bel leaves. This ritual is called Panchamrit Abhishek. After offering it to the God, the Panchamrit is distributed as Prasad among the devotees since it's considered auspicious.

It is believed that by doing Ganesh Puja methodically, with all Puja Samagri and with full devotion, Ganpati ji removes all the obstacles in one's life. In the scriptures, there is a mention of doing the Shringar of Lord Ganesha before worshiping him. Decorating the idol of Ganesha with turmeric at the time of "Shringar" has special significance. Lord Ganesha likes yellow clothes. So offering him special 'Yellow Vastra' (clothes) is considered auspicious.

It is also considered auspicious to adorn Lord Ganesha with flowers, Roli, Molly red, and sandalwood. Apart from this, keeping mango leaves near the idol is believed to help in growing one's wealth and income. If the idol of Shri Ganesh is decorated with white flowers, it symbolizes prayer for progress in business. You must offer clothes and Shringar to Shri Ganesha on Vinayaka Chaturthi.

Although Lord Ganesha likes laddus very much, offering 56 Bhog has special significance. It is believed that if the Lord likes the 56 bhog offered, then all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled.

The 56 Bhog, which is offered to please the Lord, includes rice, lentils, chutney, curd, curry, sikharini, sherbet, baati, thuli, clove, puri, khurma, porridge, parikha, fennel, Bilasaru, Laddu, Vegetables, Pickle, Kheer, Ghee, Butter, Cream, Rabdi, Papad, Shira, Lassi, Suvat, Mohan, Betel nut, Cardamom, Fruits, Paan, Mohan Bhog, Salt, Kasar, Sweets, honey, Feni, Pudi, Khajla, Ghevar, Malpua, Chola, Jalebi, Mesu, Rasgulla, Chandrakala, etc.

Brahman Bhojan is a ritual performed for the departed souls of ancestors. Brahman bhoj is done to satisfy the desires of the souls of our ancestors and let them rest in peace. Brahman Bhoj rituals help cleanse all the sins of our forefathers and help their souls to attain moksha. Also, the one who performs this ritual is said to earn good karma and is liberated from bad Karmas of past and present life.

On the auspicious days of Vinayak Chaturthi, offering Bhojan and Dakshina to Brahman is believed to absolve individuals from all sins. It is also believed that unless a Brahman prays to God through the chanting of Mantras, God cannot come and attend the puja rituals. Therefore, Brahman Bhoj is considered essential for the Puja in Hindu Dharma.

Panch Meva Prasad mainly includes almond, raisins, dry coconut, makhana and dry dates. In addition to spiritual benefits, the Prasad has health benefits for the devotees.
