Description

Kalijai Temple is located on an island in Chilika Lake. It is considered to be the abode of the Goddess Kalijai. Goddess Kalijai is actually Kali, the source and the first 'Mahavidya' of 'Dasmahavidyas'. Highly revered by the local populace, the deity has been venerated in the local folklores and legends. The island provides an excellent destination for pilgrims as well as tourists. Every year in January, a huge gala fair is held during the festival of Makar Sankranti.

काली मंदिर चिलिका झील में एक द्वीप पर स्थित है। इसे देवी काली का निवास माना जाता है। द्वीप तीर्थयात्रियों के साथ-साथ पर्यटकों के लिए एक उत्कृष्ट गंतव्य प्रदान करता है। हर साल जनवरी में, मकर संक्रांति के त्योहार के दौरान एक विशाल पर्व मेले का आयोजन किया जाता है।

Temple Story

The beautiful temple built right in the middle of the lake isn’t just a beautiful place, it also carries an equally heart-warming story. It is an uncommon story of a common village girl. The legend has it that a very beloved daughter of a village near Chilika called Banapur village was going to get married to a boy of the Parikud island. Her name was Jaai, and she was said to be the only daughter of her old father. The night she was going to get married, she had to travel by boat to the other side of the lake to get to the isle to get married. But something very tragic happened as it was directed by destiny. As the coastline of the Odisha state is very prone to cyclonic storms, that night a storm hit the village. The boat which had Jaai, her father and the boatman in it capsized. All the boatmen and her father survived this event except for the girl Jaai. A girl who was loved as a dear daughter in the entire village, a girl who was all dolled up to start her new married life, died all of a sudden in a cyclonic storm that came without a notice disheartened the entire village. To add to which all the men began searching for her body which too was nowhere to be found. It appeared as if God just took her away in a blink of an eye. The people were not only saddened but also angry with the way God had taken away their adored daughter seemed very cruel. So the villagers decided to honor her by building her a temple and making her the sole protector of the village and an absolute incarnation of Goddess Kali, hence the name Kalijai.

इस मंदिर की कहानी सामान्य गाँव की लड़की की असामान्य कहानी है। किंवदंती यह है कि बानापुर गाँव के पास चिलिका नामक गाँव की एक बहुत ही प्यारी बेटी की शादी परौद द्वीप के एक लड़के से होने वाली थी। उसका नाम जय था, और वह अपने बूढ़े पिता की इकलौती बेटी थी। जिस रात उसकी शादी होने वाली थी, उसे शादी करने के लिए टापू जाने के लिए नाव से झील के दूसरी ओर जाना पड़ा। लेकिन कुछ बहुत ही दुखद हुआ क्योंकि यह भाग्य द्वारा निर्देशित था। चूंकि ओडिशा राज्य का समुद्र तट चक्रवाती तूफानों से बहुत प्रभावित है, उस रात गाँव में तूफान आया था। जिस नाव में जय, उसके पिता और नाव का मालिक था, वह तूफ़ान में डूब गया। लड़की जय को छोड़कर सभी नाविक और उसके पिता इस घटना से बच गए। एक लड़की जिसे पूरे गांव में एक प्यारी बेटी के रूप में प्यार किया गया था, एक लड़की जो अपने नए विवाहित जीवन को शुरू करने के लिए तैयार थी, अचानक एक चक्रवाती तूफान में उसकी मृत्यु हो गई, और उस मृतुय ने पूरे गांव को निराश कर दिया। जिसके कारण सभी लोग उसके शरीर की खोज करने लगे जो कि कहीं नहीं मिला। लोगों को न केवल दुख हुआ बल्कि भगवान ने उनकी बेटी को जिस तरह से छीन लिया था उससे वे बहुत क्रोधित हुए। इसलिए ग्रामीणों ने उसे मंदिर बनाने और उसे गाँव का एकमात्र रक्षक और देवी काली का एक अवतार बनाकर सम्मानित करने का फैसला किया, इसलिए इसका नाम जय काली मंदिर है।
