Radha Ashtami marks the birth anniversary of Shri Radha Rani and is celebrated all over India with great zeal and vigor. The festival honours the beautiful bond of love shared between Shri Krishna and Radha. Radha Rani was born on the 8th day (Ashtami) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha Ashtami) in the month of Bhadrapada.

Radha Ashtami is observed 15 days after Krishna Janmashtmi that marks Shri Krishna's birth anniversary. Radha was known to be an incarnation of Maa Lakshmi. It is said that Radha Rani was first found lying on a golden lotus leaf in a pond of Barsana. She was discovered by a couple named Vrishbhanu Keerti who did not have a child of their own. Therefore, the couple adopted her. The day she was discovered is celebrated as Radha Ashtami.

It is also believed that little Radha opened her eyes for the first time only after Shri Krishna appeared in front of her. Hindu mythology describes Radha as the spiritual energy of Lord Krishna. It's also a firm belief that whoever observes the Radha Ashtami Vrat (fast) and participates in Radha Ashtami birth will be blessed with a life full of happiness and prosperity.

Radha Ashtami is celebrated with a lot of joy and enthusiasm in many parts of India, especially in Vrindavan and ISKCON. ISKCON celebrates Radha Ashtami with a lot of pomp and show and it's worth witnessing the rituals once in a lifetime. The temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and lights and beautiful idols of Radha Krishna are placed at an altar or centre stage. The place of worship is decorated with a wide variety of colors and flowers. On Radha Ashtami day, Devotees wake up and take a bath before sunrise. Then, they spend the entire day worshipping Radha Krishna and chanting mantras. Some people even keep the auspicious Radha Ashtami fast.

An important ritual of the Radha Ashtami Puja is Radha Krishna Abhisek. In this ritual, Pandit ji performs the Abhisek by bathing the idols of Radha and Krishna in holy and sacred Panchamrit which is made up of milk, yogurt, ghee, jaggery and honey. Then the idols are adorned with beautifully knitted new clothes and fresh flower garlands. Devotees offer Shringar to the deity along with bhog and dhoop. Finally, Aarti and Kirtan are organized and Prasad is served to the Devotees.

Bhog literally means offerings or blessings. Bhog offering is conducted for spiritual consciousness of an individual. In the path of devotion and spirituality, Bhog is offered more as a form of love as well as for blessings. On the auspicious day of Radha Ashtami, following Bhogas will be offered to Shri Radha Krishna.

Morning Bhog/Mangal Bhog- Shri Radha Krishna will be offered the bhog in the morning around 4 AM, which consists of kheer, fruits, butter, milk, sweets and a few other items.

Raj Bhog- The main meal of the day for the supreme deity is the Raj Bhog which is offered at noon. In this offering, the Lord feasts like a king. This meal consists of rice, a variety of vegetables, sweets, pulses & cereals, poori, juice, salads and many more dishes.

Evening Bhog - Offered to the Lord at dusk, this meal consists of Poori, sabzi, rice, pulses & cereals,sweets etc.

Chappan Bhog is an offering to the Lord in which people offer a list of 56 items together. The word 'Chappan' means 56 and 'Bhog' refers to food. Curious to know why there are 56 items specifically?

Legend says that Lord Krishna had lifted the Govardhan Parvat to save his village and villagers from the wrath of The Rain God (Lord Indra). Lord Madan Mohan lifted the huge Govardhan Parvat and held it at the tip of his little finger under which all the people took shelter. He stood in the same position for seven days in a row until Lord Indra realised his mistake. Generally, Lord Madan Mohan consumes 8 food items every day but he didn't eat anything for those seven days. Therefore, at the end of the seventh day everyone offered a total of 56 dishes (8 items each day × 7 days) to Shri Radha Krishna out of happiness and gratitude. The 56 bhog generally consists of the favourite items of Lord Madan Mohan such as cereal, fruits, dry fruits, sweets, drinks, namkeen and pickles in quantities of seven under each category.

Panch Meva is a combination of five dry fruits. Panch Meva is related to 5 elements in the universe, namely Water, Fire, Earth, Sky and Wind. Panch Meva Prasad mainly includes almond, raisins, dry coconut, makhana and dry dates. In addition to spiritual benefits, the Prasad has health benefits for the devotees.

If you choose to add Prasad in one of the packages, Prasad will be delivered via courier to your home address that you will submit after the payment process. It will be delivered after the Puja will be conducted by chanting your Name, Gotra, City of Residence in ISKCON on September 14, 2021.
